Relations Among The Races
... and
other United States minorities believe they often receive unfair treatment
because of their race. However, President Clinton and several organizations
-- including the National Multicultural Institute, whose main focus is to
"sort out the jumble of expectations and fears that swirl around the
initiative's struggle to reconcile ethnicity and difference with the
notion of one American nation" (Green, 1998; PG) -- are pushing hard to
mend racial tension with a comprehensive program that is designed to bring
all races together. Will it work? Or will minorities look upon the effort
as nothing more than a Ban ...

Child Rearing In Victorian Times
... era, was as one may put it, stuffy, conventional and routine, not to
mention quite lonely at certain times. Yet others argue Victorian children
should have been quite content, given the fact that they were treated to only
the best of toys, clothes and education and it was absurd to even consider the
child being neglected.
Mothers and Fathers were seen as special, glamourous guests, due to the
fact that they were never around and rarely seen by their children. This was
because child and parent led totally separate existences, they were only
summoned to appear before their parents at a certain set hour ...

Long Distance Relationship And How To Make It Work
... in a situation just like yours. My
boyfriend and I had just the same problem back when we were in college, and we
made it work. We are now happily married with two beautiful children. So, I
think I can give you a few pointers on how to keep your love going. You are
going to have to have three important things to make it work though. Those
things are trust, communication and patience.
First and the most important, you and your boyfriend need to have trust
in each other. In every relationship there has to be trust, but for some reason,
in long-distance relationships, it seems like there has to be just a little

Sports In Society
... in technique, however, they all include skills focused
on mastering the art of self-confidence. There are considerable amounts of
evidence in sports literature that there is a direct correlation between self-
confidence and peak performance.
Self-confidence exists in all walks of life. It is defined as: the
strong relationships between a person's thoughts, feelings, and behavior which
if motivated correctly can help an individual excel with confidence in anything
they try to do. Most of the time self-confidence is viewed in accordance with
how well an athlete performs at a certain sport activity. To examine thi ...

How To Win An Argument
... the
parking spot on 187th and Amsterdam, or whether you have a week or a month to
write an essay, you may want to consider getting into the dispute. If fighting
arguments is just an “ego boost” or hobby, then disregard the above.
The next item to take into consideration is your background on the topic. You
should never enter an argument you have no information about, because it will
only end in “your mother is a .....” insults. In a factual argument, it is
helpful if the truth is on your side, but as we've learned from our politicians,
it is not necessary. However, if the truth does eventually get out yo ...

Knights And Chivalry
... love, romantic devotion for
a sexually unattainable woman, usually another man's wife. Veneration for
the Virgin Mary played a part in this concept. Chivalric ideals influenced
the founding of religious military orders during the period of the Crusades,
among them the Templars and the Hospitalers, the Teutonic Knights, and the
Spanish orders of Alcantara, Calatrava, and Santiago. In the late Middle
Ages, rulers formed secular orders of chivalry such as the English Order of
the Garter and the Burgundian Order of the Golden Fleece. By this time,
however, chivalry had become largely a system of etiquette. Tourn ...

Early Marriages Are Usually Unhappy Marriages
... certain amount of respect and acceptance for tradition. Although some of the marriages that lasted had it's fair share of problems, the couples always maintained that they had to compromise and keep their respect for each other high above the troubled waters. The ones that did not last may have been so because the two people who were put together were entirely incompatible. Many stories have been heard but few have been learnt from.
Today some young people believe that they need to wait before they make that big commitment. Indeed there must be some just reason for them to conclude this. But as it is with many sit ...

Violence In Media: You Are What You Watch
... untold numbing horror into Canada's
living rooms, bedrooms, and nurseries. Taped TV violence, unlike real
violence, repeats over and over in an accelerating pattern. The sounds and
scenes of violence echo, firing in every direction without concern for
targets or casualties. Canadians are developing a vision of themselves as
hopeless victims of criminal forces they cannot control and cannot
understand.
While TV grows rich on violence, the nation is threatened by loss of
self-esteem, fear of crime, and fear of our neighbours. A permanent
impression is made on the innocent minds of young children too young to
read ...

Time For Americans To Be A Family
... family in Toledo,
Ohio? I've never considered myself to be anything special, certainly never
superior to anyone or anything by virtue of my ancestry, just your basic, run-
of-the-mill guy who wants to do the right thing.
From the time I was little boy, I have seen one particular group called colored,
Negro, black, and now, African-American. I can't seem to find a consensus out
there in any media, one moment the reference is to blacks, and the next to
African-Americans, when they are referring to the same group of people.
I'm not knocking what people want to call themselves, it's the mixed messages
I'm getting ...

Does Violence In Movies Contribute To Violent Teens
... debate about guns, and violence in movies toward our youth. I personally do not think that violence in movies is having a big impact on teenagers, but then again I have never wanted to kill someone, because I know the consequences if I ever did kill someone. People argue that we need to start making it hard for teens to watch violent movies, and make it harder to buy a gun, but I do not think that will change anything in our society. The harder we make it for someone to get something, the harder they will try to get it without anyone knowing about it. People are always looking to put the blame off on other peop ...
