The Beat Generation
... in their literary work. Ginsberg, who was mainly known for his life-changing poem “Howl,” which was first read at the Six Gallery in San Francisco in October 1955, defeated all odds by letting be known and writing about the fact that he was of Jewish heritage and a homosexual. William Burroughs, who also was very much into drugs, wrote such novels such as Junky, and “Naked Lunch, which made Burroughs an underground celebrity, and is widely considered his best work.3” Burroughs is in fact though, “the only major beat figure not strongly influenced by Buddhist thought.4” Jack Kerouac, who had ...

Greg Graffin
... he began
work at the university of Wisconsin as a professor. He still works their today.
Greg was often picked on in high school because of his "Punkness". "There were
three people at my high school who were punkers, I mean I got beat up everyday
by long haired people who listened to Rush and would beat me up because I didn't.
When he was fifteen he started a band with other social outcasts who didn't
quite fit in. They settled on the name BAD RELIGION.
Bad Religion does not pertain to any kind of sacrilegious activities or
the like. Instead it is a statement against any establishment that promotes

John Rzeznik's Iris
... For instance: “touch you,” “feel me,” “breathe is your life,” “taste is this moment,” and “see me,” are examples of imagery. He uses the imaginative sense not the physical sense of these words. The song contains other literary devices, for example: “When everything feels like the movies,” exemplifies a simile. This shows how the writer can not connect with his lover, because he can not sense reality within her. The writer uses another literary technique, the repetitive use of the word “And.” Rzeznik uses “And” at the beginning of every verse. This shows a way of continuing h ...

Early History Of The Pipe Organ
... hydraulic and
hydraulis.
Hydraulic organs were in use for several hundred years before the concept of
bellows, similar in concept and style to those of a blacksmith, came into use
with the organ. Numerous bellows were used to supply air to the wind-chest,
often being pumped in pairs by men. The disadvantages of this method of air
supply include the lack of consistent pressure, which leads to inconsistent
pitch and tuning; also, many people were required to operate the bellows since
there were upwards of twenty-four bellows per organ (Hopkins & Rimbault 35).
Also, with organs of this size, the bellows took up l ...

Chili Peppers, The Breeders, Alice in Chains, Sex Pistols, Sublime, Iggy Pop,
the list goes on and on. Together, these bands have sold more than 60 million

Song Analysis: "Betterman”
... god times I had.
I think there are a few different themes in this song. The lyrics
tend to show all kinds of different emotions someone can have. The lyrics
are very important in a song and in this song they express really strong
feeling. Love is symbolized in the song through the words that are song.
The words help say a message and tell you how easily you can fall in love
but how painful it can be to fall back out. It lets you understand love

Can Manufactured Bands Ever Be Classified As 'Good' Art? The Effect Of The Market On The Construction Of Music
... art is 'bad' art, one must have a reference
point - a set of values by which to judge. This is almost always a personal
opinion, and I would first of all like to explain my personal opinion.
I believe that 'good' art has something to offer to the individual
perceiver, be it painting, book, film, dance or music. These are all different
forms of art, but one thing binds them all together - the fact that they are
creations, created and crafted to the personal specifications of the artist.
This makes the product original.
Two values by which I judge music are creativity and originality. I
believe that good art provid ...
