Dating In Highschool To Real Life Love Situations
... knew that
you never dated people from other schools, it had been common knowledge
since my parents, parents were in school. Girls, generally only dated guys
that were one or two years older than them, and my class was no exception.
Accordingly, my closest friends had boyfriends who were also good
friends, in the grade above us. It was all one big circle of girlfriends
and boyfriends. If you didn’t find your own boyfriend or girlfriend,
usually this certain circle would be the ones responsible for intervening
and setting you up with someone. It almost seemed unfair, but that’s just
how things were.

Shattered Perfection
... or doing anything “wrong.”
I know some of these things are examples of good parenting, but there is a fine line between teaching and guiding a child to do the right things, and forcing them to do the right things. Some of the things they did I’m still a bit grateful for, and I understand their reasoning, things like enrolling me in activities. I found out what I liked and was good at a young age, which was good, but the bad side was that I was never able to change once I started, and being so young and fickle, that discouraged me from liking things that I could have later on.
The pressure to be perfect ...

Personal Writing: "Lost In The Mess"
... of schoolwork, then tossed in the general direction of the bookshelf. Carrots, dulled from their natural bright orange to a clouded orange, bread, crispy and no longer fluffy littered the crevices between the open drawers. Too full with clothes, (clean or dirty I can't be sure) they protruded into the already limited open space. Accessories lost in the thick brown carpeting, necklaces, earings, barrettes and more strung out from end to end of my room. Fallen pushpins in the bed from the cluttered bulletin board above, suspended by one thin wire, swaying with the slightest breath of air. An overwhelming stench, s ...

The Man In The Park
... to a giant. To hold them up he had to use suspenders, on this bright morning he had chosen a crimson red pair. Covering his stooped shoulders was a worn blue sweater, the color made me think of cornflowers. Navy and dirty white canvas sneakers adorned his feet. His white sock could be seen through a gaping hole in the sole. These shoes had taken him to many different places. They were like an old friend that he couldn’t say goodbye to.
On this particular day the sun was shining down, warming the earth and lake, so many children played on the wooden swing set. From where I stood on the path, I coul ...

Balances Of Values And Academic Freedom Of Inquiry
... but in an orderly fashion.
In exercising those freedoms, we should do so with maturity and
responsibility. As students, we are responsible for learning all the content of
any course we study. We are free to take exception to the views or information
presented to us, and we are free to reserve judgment about matters of opinions.
Sometimes, in our quest for knowledge, there becomes a conflict between
our beliefs we are accustomed to and the material presented to us. When there is
a difference, we should not ignore the idea or block it out. We should feel free
to learn and question new ideas. Just because we learn s ...

Creative Writing: A Grim Conclusion
... shot up instantly, he glanced
around and saw that a young man with tangled blonde hair was standing
directly in front of him. The man looked as though he had just crawled out
of a dumpster. He wore a tattered black suit that sported several layers
of dried mud and grease. It looked as if he were in his early twenties.
"Sorry to wake you," the man said. "But may I sit beside you. I need a
rest, and this is the best seat in the park."
The old man hesitated slightly and forced a friendly smile, "Of course." He
paused as the man sat down, "Do you have a name, son?"
The man smiled, "My friends call me Stan. An ...

Creative Writing: A Day At The Park
... to splurge and buy
general admission tickets. Well it was about three hours before the game,
and one hour before I got through with work. All of a sudden my phone
rings, and it was my mother-in-law "wondering" if I wanted a couple of
free view box tickets and a parking pass, for that nights Ranger game. I
couldn't have been more excited, much less believe my luck.
After I got off work , and picked up the tickets, I raced home to
get my wife and son ready to go. Over the next half hour, I almost
regretted having to bring my son, what with the hassle of getting the
diaper bag packed , the traffic, and fi ...

Personal Writing: Boot Camp
... is the place where they train actual adult navel
recruits that are going into the navy as a career. When we got off the bus
we were forced to do pushups until nobody could do anymore. We were being
punished for being so loud and insubordinate on the bus. Some people
started crying because they couldn't do any more pushups, but still were
forced to do more.
You are probably asking, why didn't they just stop and refuse to do
the pushups? The answer is because your parents paid a lot of money for
you to go to this program. A fee of about five hundred dollars all
together. That money is for the uniforms, bus ...

Lucinda said “my stepbrother is under six years old”. The train stopped again

No Need For Drastic Change
... travel the world would be a different place. People would not be the same and our society would change into a different type of culture, one that is very restricted in possibilities for the future.
Society today has been shaped by the ways people interact with one another. Communities have a unified distinction by population, wealth, and place of living such as city, suburb, or country. Everyone knows the rules and understands what it takes to succeed in the place they live. Lao-Tzu states, “Let go of the law / then people will become honest” Mitchell. 57. 2-3).
