... cap. His face was crumpled and freckled, and ugly without silliness. Out of this face stared two light blue eyes, frustrated now, and turning, or ready to turn, to anger.” Jack’s eyes are always used in the novel to depict his emotions, as they are in the quote above. When the boys land on the island they are all wearing their school uniforms, but Jack and his choir are wearing cloaks and caps. Oddly enough, Jack is one of the only boys whose last name is learned. I think the author does this to make Jack stand out. He is a very important character because throughout this whole novel, Golding ...

... giving his readers something to enjoy. His thoroughness in his writing keeps the reader wanting more.
is a collection of 19 short stories about Mars and the Martians. He opens the book with a very short story, “Rocket Summer”. “Rocket Summer” is a great exaggeration of how hot it becomes within a few miles radius of a rocket launch. Around this certain rocket, it was winter. As soon as the rocket’s booster ignited, all of the snow within the vicinity melted. “The snow dissolved and showed last summer’s ancient green lawns.”. The antagonist of the novel was time, Mr. Fogg was pressured to

the reader is informed of all the peculiar habits of Fogg that Passepartout
had to support.
My least favorite character is Fix the detective. He followed Fogg
around the globe, he missed arresting him in India and ...

... wear. The masks became a producer of evil circumstances, gave a sense of anonymity, and represented the defiance of social structure.
Whenever someone is wearing a mask or has a painted face, evil is at large. The very purpose of a mask is for hiding. The boys use the masks to hide their lust for blood, killing, and death from their consciences. When going to hunt for the first time, "Jack hid, liberated from shame and self-consciousness" because he knew that his manner of hunting was evil and would only lead to lascivious killing. While describing that hunt to the boys, Jack was "twitching" and "shuddering" as h ...
