Fate And Prophecy In Oedipus Rex
Part 1 of Paper ....uilding of this classic Greek Tragedy. Prophecies and the fate that accompany them surround the main characters of this play. Oedipus the newly founded King of Thebes is in search of the murderer of the previous king before him. Oedipus is not aware that he has killed the old king who was also his father. Now he is mar.... Part 2 of Paper .... kills him and then defeats the Sphinx to become the new king of Thebes. After this first accusation the reader can see that not only is the king accused of murder but he has committed murder before. Oedipus unknowingly killed his own father but also married his mother. This trick of fate is indisputable when Jocasta tries to slight fate, “For God’s love let us have no more questioning! / Is your life nothing to you? / My own is pain enough for me to bear” (Sophocles 1045).
