He is able to substantiate those emotions with natural images that are well known and comprehendible. He also presents different aspects of nature such as weather, landscape, and animals, using their connotations to exemplify Tess.... The image of white flowers provides a feeling of cleanliness and purity, which corresponds to the way Hardy has chosen to initially depict Tess. The sunshine and golden colors, indirectly signify the happiness and gaiety that she expresses early on in the book.
