"The Idea Of A University": Education As Moral Training
Part 1 of Paper ....lf. As a pronounced Catholic, Newman had reservations about these changes and wanted to defend the value of learning for its own sake. His point of view for a prefect university was that everybody learns the same subjects. In his book "The Idea of a University" talks about the attempts to define in Liberal Arts educ.... Part 2 of Paper ....people don't get to learn what they want, there are not enough opportunities for jobs if everyone learned the same subjects, and the fact that we have to learn all the subjects that we might not even use in life. There should be specific people doing and studying specific things so we all don't have to learn and do it. In my opinion, I believe that part of Newman's theory is correct but the other half is not correct. We should have our own decisions on what we want to learn, but it's also not.... |
