George Wilson believes that the advertisement’s eyes are the eyes of god. “I spoke to her,” he muttered, after a long silence. “I told her she might fool me but she couldn’t fool God. I took her to her to the window, and I said ‘God kno.... Part 2 of Paper .....” The description gives a sense that there is a giant being that watches constantly over the land in any weather. The eyes are also describes as unhappy, as thought it is unhappy of what it is seeing in society. The eyes are unhappy of the 1920’s society, the people are spending large amounts of money and act selfishly.
The symbol of the eyes of Dr. T.J. Eckleburg is very much appropriate for this novel. It explains shows that the author is disappointed with the way society was.... |
