Minstrels
... English minstrels were referred to as scops.
Minstrels were primarily singers and musicians. These wandering
performers were also story tellers, jugglers, clowns, and tumblers. Often
minstrels were an important part of prominent house holds providing
entertainment for the upper class of society. Those minstrels who were not part
of a noble's homestead, traveled from town to town providing entertainment not
only to noble classes but also to common village folk as well.
There were not many forms of entertainment, nor was there a means for
people to learn about news events. There was no television or radio in me ...

Bearing
... work to improve your . Another thing that is helpful is determination. You may not get all the recognition that you want, but you need to have determination in order to keep going. Yet another skill to have, as Sgt. Stokes would say, is attention to detail. Like putting your ribbons an 1/8 above the pocket when the manual says to.
When you obtain good you should carry yourself as an example to others. Just because you obtain good today doesn’t mean you will automatically have it tomorrow. You have to earn it.
You should also look off of and follow those that you think have a good . They probably know what ...

Gangs
... at several
institutions. These include the forces of the media, the government,
theatre, drugs and our economic system.
On the surface, gangs are caused by peer pressure and greed. Many
teens in gangs will pressure peers into becoming part of a gang by making
it all sound glamorous. Money is also an crucial factor. A kid (a 6-10
year old, who is not yet a member) is shown that s/he could make $200 to
$400 for small part time gang jobs. Although these are important factors
they are not strong enough to make kids do things that are strongly against
their morals.
One of the ways that kids morals are ...

Teens And The Price They Pay To Look Good
... with their vanity that they feel the need to torture themselves with these self proclaimed "safe" machines. "Tanning salons may call it 'healthful', 'beneficial', or 'sunshine under glass', but the radiation given off by even the newest tanning equipment can seriously harm the skin," said a researcher with Ohio State University Arthur G. James cancer hospital and research institute. Tanning beds surround your body with UV light. These beds emit two to three times the amount of UV light that reaches the earth outdoors. UV light has been linked to serious cases of malignant melanoma, and even to the weakening of the ...

Violence In The Media
... allowed
to view violence and sex because... well, I can't think of a good reason. But,
hey, at least the government sucks at censoring stuff. I'm 13 and I've seen
Playboys. I've seen at least a gajillion R rated movies, and I can walk into any
store in Connecticut and buy some M rated video games. You know why? No one
cares anymore. They're as desensitized as we are, and that's a good thing. It is
a sad fact that we find violence so entertaining, but hell, it is. I freaking
love to see movies where there are more scenes of mindless violence than there
are actual scenes of acting. These movies are aimed at the lowest ...

The Clinton Sex Scandal
... news reports and now,
even more menacing: the Internet.
Presidents who are constantly reminded of their power and prestigious rank,
become exasperated because they cannot control the news media, even though
they can to a large degree set the news agenda. Media has expanded in its
presence, becoming widespread on the Internet, perhaps monopolizing the
domain, by becoming more powerful and more used than written, televised or
radio journalism. The Presidents' inability to control the press exposes
their vulnerability and tends to question the actual power they can
actually exert. All presidents, at some time or an ...

Radical Feminism Inhibits The Liberation Of Women
... person in the male community. This growing form of labeling shows that radical feminist inhibits the one thing that the regular feminist have been striving for the past hundred years, the liberation of women.
The increasing tendency of women in the workplace has given arise to a new feminist. This feminist sees the male gender as a different species and mainly the enemy. As always these women give the regular feminist a bad name. If you walked into a mostly male room and said feminist the initial word would be lesbian. These stereotypes are always breaking down what the traditional feminist is trying to build. The ...

Women In The Military
... women's ability to serve their country. The military was fully integrated in the mid-1970s (Moskos 107). Yet, twenty-some years later, women are still trying to gain full equality. In those past twenty years, there have been many courageous women who have been fighting their way into record-breaking positions so their male peers would accept them. Two of these women are Shannon Faulkner and Shannon Workman. Faulkner was the first woman to become a cadet at the Citadel as she walked through the gates on August 12, 1995. Faulkner entered the 152-year-old military school located in South Carolina as a "knob," o ...

Cheating
... you cheat in school, you are just getting by, you aren't
actually learning. Later in life, this can really hurt you. When you grow
up and have a job, there will be no one to copy. None of the good
employers will want you if you can't do good work -- and that means
undesirable, dead-end, jobs like flipping burgers.
Cheating is also dishonest and dishonorable to yourself and other
people. It will cause you to lose your self respect and the respect of
others. Cheaters never really win, they only fool themselves.
For these reasons, I believe that cheating is a terrible thing to
do. It may get you a grade, but ...

The Need For An Official Language
... money, in addition, it makes the operation of the government
inefficient. Everyone have to suffer from it because all this money come from
the tax.
Using different languages also breaks the unity of our society. People are
separated by what kind of language they speak; for example, people who speak
only Chinese will live in China Town. Those people also tend to hang around with
the same kind of people, those who speak Chinese. There is no communiaction
between them and the outside. Later on, different kinds of small groups will be
formed. Different gruops will have conflict since they don't share the same
