Sexual Harassment
... for sexual harassment of women at the
workplace. Not until, that is, the Education Amendments of 1972 were enacted.
Title IX of the Education Amendments states that "sexual harassment is a form of
sexual discrimination and is illegal." (What is Sexual Harassment?, page 20)
After the Education Amendments were enacted, women began to see that the law was
on their side and that it was designed to protect them. Women now saw that

Juvenile Delinquency
... courts,
where the main aim is to rehabilitate offenders, rather than to punish them.
But the term juvenile delinquency itself has come to imply disgrace in today's
society. A youngster can be labeled a delinquent for breaking any one of a
number of laws, ranging from robbery to running away from home. But an action
for which a youth may be declared a delinquent in one community may not be
against the law in another community. In some communities, the police ignore
many children who are accused of minor delinquencies or refer them directly to
their parents. But in other communities, the police may refer such ch ...

Male And Female Roles In Society
... deviates from these expected roles especially in my culture, that person is labeled as not knowing her place, disobedient, arrogant and a show off. As an Indian female I am consistently reminded by my society what is appropriate behavior for a woman and my place in society. One realizes that men can exhibit behaviors associated with a dominant role and be praised for it. Ironically, attending a university and receiving an education requires dominant characteristics such as competitiveness, aggressiveness, confidence, etc. Bearing these qualities has served as a hindrance to being accepted by my society. Creating A Culture Of Peace
... of peace being
something we can never attain, then there is another way of looking at the
subject. Peace is obviously something we can have that will satisfy
everyone, but it is something that we can always work on and improve.
The ways in which we can improve our culture can be much easier to
understand when we break down everyone’s definition of peace into separate
points. By doing this we can specifically improve each aspect and in the
long run we will have created a much more peaceful society.
The first aspect of peace is the spirit peace, which reflects how
we feel about ourselves and how we treat othe ...

Cigarette Companies Should Not Be Able To Advertise
... are dishonest and plain out lie to the public. They didn't admit that smoking was bad intill about 20 years after the industry started. If you look at the old television commercials, they lie, one that comes to mind is the old Philip Morris commercial, that advertised smoking his brand would give you energy make you healthy, and give you a great feeling inside. Now, in today's age, this would be considered false advertising. But if cigarette companies could lie like that to people that didn't know any better, for they were uneducated on the subject, what other lows could the stoop to.
Another reason cigarette co ...

1950’s Youth Culture
... I talked to a man in my neighborhood, John Braggs, he explained to me that the modern style of wearing your pants low on your hips actually began in the fifties. He said that they wore tight jeans that were pulled down low at the waist with of course a tight white T- shirt tucked in. "I don’t know where y’all started wearen’ ‘em so baggy from, but I don’t like it," he shouted in his southern accent. The females were not as revealing as the modern women are. Longer dresses and dressier shirts were their style. The ‘Beatnik’ generation was forming out of Grenitch village in Manhattan which the styl ...

... named, almost had her house foreclosed on. If not for the service provided by the factoring companies she would have lost it. Another man, who also wished to not release his name, secured funds through a factoring company to expand his own business, and as a result he is more successful than ever. It is obvious that the factoring companies have provided a valuable service for some, but lets take a look at the dissatisfied customers.

Legislating Sexuality
... not defending the "tradition of family" but instead,
enforcing prejudice and hatred against a group that is already struggling to
gain equal rights and acceptance in a society that has long closed its
collective mind to homosexuality.
Since the dawn of American history, equal rights among U.S. citizens has
been a hotly debated issue. With the Civil War and Lincoln's Emancipation
Proclamation, slavery was prohibited. Women gained the right to vote with the
ratification of the Constitution's nineteenth amendment on August 26, 1920(Cooke,
157). Although African Americans gained suffrage through the fifteenth amendmen ...

"The Typical Abnormal Teen"
... and emotions with barbed wire wrapped around it. He is sarcastic, nasty, and completely unlikable. He also gives the impression that he does not care. Holden Caulfield, the protagonist in J.D. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye, is every teenager caught between the juvenility of high school and the fear of adulthood.
The inability to be understood is one of the trademark characteristics of the typical teenager. Throughout the novel, Holden acts the way he does because no one seems to share his view of the world; no one understands what is going on in his head.
Holden also uses colloquial speech instead of formin ...
