The Search For Black Holes: Both As A Concept And An Understanding
... and explain the phenomenom known as a black hole.
The goal of this paper is to explain how the concept of a black hole
came about, and give some insight on how black holes are formed and might be
tracked down in our more technologically advanced future. Gaining an
understanding of a black hole allows for a greater understanding of the concept
of spacetime and maybe give us a grasp of both science fiction and science fact.
Hopefully, all the clarification will come by the close of this essay.
A black hole is probably one of the most misunderstood ideas among
people outside of the astronomical and physical commu ...

Seeing The Vessels Of The Retina
... could not see the blood vessels in the back of
their own eyes.
EXPERIMENT
My experiment was not about the tiny blood vessels that you can easily
see on the surface of the eye. It's to do with the larger vessels
All I had to do was take a person into a dark room with my flashlight.
I had them cover their left eye and look down at the floor with their right eye.
I held the flashlight up towards the ceiling under their right eye, but they
kept looking at the floor, not the light.
RESULTS
I am writing down what everyone recorded for me. I am first:
JOSH: I could see black blood vessels with orange in the ...

Scenes Of Nature
... can form many different and interesting shapes.
At night the sky becomes enchanting and glorious. When the stars are out
the sky is undeniably exquisite. The skys deep shades range from blue at
dawn to deep oranges and purple at dusk. The sky scenes are genuinely
picturesque.
The forest changes it scenery in seasons instead of day and night
like the sky. In the summer the forest is filled with majestic shades of
green. The fall brings colorful shades of oranges, reds, and yellows. The
winter deprives the forest of its colorful splendor, but brings a different
type of beauty all together. In the spring all of ...

Effects Of Smoking
... Nicotine is an addictive drug and also one of the most
dangerous ingredients in cigarette tobacco. Cigarette
smokers are addicted to the nicotine in cigarettes just like
a junkie is addicted to heroin or cocaine. When a person
smokes a cigarette the body reacts immediately to the
chemical nicotine. Nicotine begins to effect a smoker’s
blood pressure, the flow of blood from their heart, the
heart beat and breathing rate.
Cigarette smoke also contains carbon monoxide, the same
poisonous gases released from a car exhaust pipe. Carbon
monoxide is a colorless and odorless, highly toxic gas that

Hydroponics
... hydroponics. It was
only being used by commercial growers. But now it has caught on, and resulted in
this experiment.
When thinking about hydroponics one must think about the applications of
hydroponics. Not only dose hydroponics produce bigger, better, and more
healthier plants than the traditional dirt, but it can also be greatly
beneficial on things like submarines, space stations, off-shore oil rigs, or any
where else where dirt is hard to come by.
During this experiment we'll be looking for which plant life well do
best with hydroponics, by measuring which plant has grown the highest or
bushiest. We also wel ...

Global Warming
... factories and started using fossil fuels like
coal, oil, and aluminum. It was the industrial revolution and overpopulation of
humans that was the cause of the environmental problems that we have today.
2. Human Activity Causing the Problem
The reason our Earth is getting hotter is that human activities are
emitting too much carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The radiation from the
sun gets trapped in the bag of carbon dioxide that surrounds our earth.
One main reason for the problem of global warming is the burning of
fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are coal, oil and natural gases. We use these fuels
to run fa ...

Mars Polar will touch down on Mars in December 1999, carrying two softball-size penetrators, the Deep Space 2 mission, that will crash land on Mars some 60 miles north of the landing site. All is going well with ’s Saturn-bound Cassini mission and the Deep Space 1 mission. Cassini will reach Saturn in June 2004 and Deep Space 1 will rendezvous with asteroid 1992KD in July 1999. The Galileo spacecraft at Jupiter went into a safe mode just six hours before its scheduled flyby of Europa on November 21-22 ...

Evolution Of Immunity And The Invertebrates
... in the
animal kingdom. Metchnikoff's further studies showed that the host defense
system of all animals today were present millions of years before when hey were
just beginning to evolve. His studies opened up the new field of comparative
immunology. Comparative immunologists studied the immune defenses of past and
current creatures. They gained further insight into how immunity works.
The most basic requirement of an immune system is to distinguish between
one's own cells and "non-self" cells. The second job is to eliminate the non-
self cells. When a foreign object enters the body, several things happen. Bl ...

Genetic Observations Through The Studies Of Hybrid Corn, Single Gene Human Traits, And Fruit Flies
... we
dealt with Drosophila melanogaster and we examined red and white eye alleles to
determine if this gene is sex-linked or autosomal.
During the mid 1800’s Mendel bred garden peas to study inheritance. He
choose these plants because of their well defined characteristics and the
ability to be grown and crossed (Campbell, 1996). Mendel wanted to know the
genetic basis for variation among individuals and what accounted for the
transmission of traits from generation to generation. Mendel followed traits
for the P generation, F1 generation, and F2 generation. The P generation is the
original true-breeding pa ...

Xenon
... discovered by Sir William
Ramsey and M.W. Travers from England in 1898. The two scientists discovered it
mistakenly while experimenting with crude krypton, another noble gas. They were
separating the elements in the crude krypton through a process called fractional
distillation. In fractional distillation, the process separates two elements
that have different boiling points. Basic-ally, when a sample is heated, the
faster element leaves first, leaving the second element behind. Krypton was
known to have a boiling point at a temperature that is lower than xenon. So the
scientists could predict that heating the ...
