The Death Of A Criminal
... supporters argue the death penalty is unconstitutional -- "Capital punishment is a barbaric remnant of an uncivilized society. It is immoral in principle, and unfair and discriminatory in practice. It assures the execution of some innocent people. As a remedy for crime, it has no purpose and no effect (American Civil Liberties Union National Office 2-16-95)."
In 1972, the Supreme Court in Furman v. Georgia ruled that the death penalty for murder was unconstitutional. They also argue that the death penalty costs too much to carry out (Academic American Encyclopedia "Capital Punishment").
Yet, in 1976, the Supr ...

Crimes In Schools Lower Academic Levels
... we could forget about those problems and focus on what were doing, but the younger children who are not yet as understanding and mature will not feel secure in such a situation.
Even though I am a young adult and I am able to understand many things I personally feel that I would not be able to focus on my schoolwork if I knew that such violent crimes are happening everyday. That is mainly because I would never know when such a crime like that would happen in my school or somewhere nearby.
After reading many articles there was this one article that grabbed my attention right away. The title of the articl ...

The Death Penalty: To Be Or Not To Be...
... I see and hear
in the media are reports about horrible crimes committed by New Yorkers.
As George Pettinico states in his article " Crime and punishment:
America changes it's mind ": The media's extensive coverage of crime, especially
the most brutal and horrific cases have heightened the public's fear and anger
over this issue to a near frenzy. When asked in January of this year, " How
often do you see reports of violent crime on television ? " 68 % replied "
almost every day ".
Although the media have played an important role in raising the public's
awareness of lawlessness, crime in America is ...

Speeding Is A Dead End
... to pay the price. Not only could I kill myself by
speeding, I could kill other innocent people that could have been involved.
Moreover, not only did I not comply with the speed limit, I did not obey my
mother. Unfortunately, I learned my lesson one gloomy day when I got caught for
speeding on a city street by a police officer.
It was the typical setting to be accused for a driving offense. The
clouds were gray, the roads were slick due to a recent rainfall and there was
not many cars on the road encouraging me to drive faster. I had just gone
through a yellow light at a major intersection and when I looked str ...

Capital Punishment
... Although in the past, the number of crimes that were subjected to
capital punishment, defined simply as the death penalty for a crime, were
outrageous. Amendments were made to reflect the changes in the society's
views on the morality of capital punishment. That resulted in the
narrowing down of the list of one hundred crimes to twelve, punishable by
the death penalty in 1833, and in 1869 it was cut down yet again to just
three: treason, rape, and murder because of violent nature of these crimes.
These crimes, even today, are still viewed as violent and should be
punished with the highest degree of disciplin ...

Drug Abuse
... hurts us, and,
most of all, hurts the user. Drug users are parasites, feeding off
society's money, taxes and insurance. Every type of insurance goes up
because of drug abuse, including auto, health and homeowners. Worst of all,
the crime rate will sky rocket if we let this behavior continue. Illegal
drugs and their abusers are a plague to society for many different reasons..
Drugs have very harmful effects on the user and the people with
whom the user interacts. The user is affected in many ways. The most
popular drug in America, alcohol, is generally thought of as socially

Capital Punishment
... from blasphemy and treason to petty theft and murder. Many ancient societies accepted the idea that certain crimes deserved capital punishment. Ancient Roman and Mosaic law endorsed the notion of retaliation; they believed in the rule of "an eye for an eye." Similarly, the ancient Egyptians, Assyrians, and Greeks all executed citizens for a variety of crimes. The most famous people to be executed are Socrates and Jesus. Only in England, during the reigns of King Canute (1016-1035) and William the Conqueror (1066-1087) was the death penalty not used, although the results of interrogation and torture were often fa ...

Speeding Tickets As A Form Of Discipline
... the ticket rather than pay the fine. Waiting in the gloom of the sun-vanquished courtroom to see the judge can be very close to a death sentence. The wait is long, and the company can be frightening. Once you have plead your case, you generally end up paying the excessively large fine. This only leads to another line, and another wait. This has to be the most unpleasant part of a speeding ticket.
In addition, paying for traffic school is also a disagreeable experience. If you waited to see the judge, you may be on your way after paying the fine. If the judge is kind, and offers a traffic school option, the unpleasa ...

Legalization Of Marijuana
... agencies believed that marijuana should not be legalized because if marijuana is to be legal then thousands more patients would be using marijuana. They claim twenty years of research have produced no documents of reliable scientific proof that marijuana has medical value. The Drug Enforcement Agency along with police departments all over the United States believe, with the legislation of drugs, crime will result in an increase in drug-related crimes.
Meanwhile, the black market would disappear overnight. Some arrangement would be made to license the production of marijuana cigarettes. The untold multitudes o ...
