Macbeth: Lying
... between a
lie and equivocation, let us use a mask and call it "LIE". A lie would be
like covering up your face with that mask, so that no one can see the truth.
But equivocation is like putting on only half the mask, to show only half
the truth.
In the Shakespearean play that we study in grade eleven English titled
Macbeth, wicked and evil witches deceive their victim, Macbeth, by
equivocating his prophecies. As a result of this new "half-true" knowledge,
Macbeth makes rash decisions that lead him to paranoia, grief, and his
downfall.
The first set of prophecies the witches reveal to Macbet ...

Light And Darkness Found Within The Gospel Of John And In Sophocles' Drama Antigone
... blind prophet whose lack of vision does not prevent him from recognizing the
truth. The words of John and the characterization of Sophocles, although
similar in many aspects, differ in the extent to which their concepts of light
and darkness affect humanity. Sophocles' light, in the form of Teiresias,
allows truth to permeate throughout one's lifetime. John's light, as the
manifesta tion ofthe logos, presents truth and enlightenment to humanity, but
also ensures a glorified and joyous afterlife through Christ's salvation.
Teiresias, the voice of fate and harbinger of truth in Sophocles' play
Antigone, humbly ent ...

Differences Between Laurence's West Side Story And Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet
... different in many ways.
Three incidents show Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story differs from
one another. The first thing shows the difference between Maria and Juliet, and
Romeo and Tony. When Juliet finds that her lover Romeo is dead Juliet kills
herself. Maria does not kill herself but instead she puts her sadness into
treating the two gangs with a gun. When Romeo finds Juliet supposedly dead he
drinks poison to kill himself too. Chino killed Tony because Chino was in love
with Maria but so was Tony. This is just one way that Romeo and Juliet differ
from West Side Story.
Another way the two stories d ...

“Love Story”
... Graw as Jenny Cavilleri, a poor, intelligent Radcliff music major, and Ryan O’Neal as Oliver Barrett IV, a rich Harvard pre-law student. As said in a film review at filmsite.org, “’Love Story’ is a sentimental, romantic film told as a flashback”, (Tim Dirks, filmsite.org). An article in Time described the film as, “boy meets girl, boy gets girl, boy loses girl”, (Stefan Kanfer, Time 1970). Oliver and Jenny met in the Radcliff library. There experience an immediate attraction for each other. They have an extraordinary relationship despite the fact that they are social opposites. Their only interfe ...

Tragedy And The Common Man
... indeed in viewing the play common man is empathizing with common man. Willy Loman is real. Where as some may recognize in Willy a person they know, or may even see themselves in him. Miller’s subtle wordplay of “Loman” and “layman” is interesting in this regard. It is the familiarity with Willy Loman that is the endearing quality which draws the audience closer to him. Through identification with his struggles and pains an appreciation of his plight is achieved. This identification is universal. The universality of identification is, among those reading or viewing the play, a bonding force for persons o ...

Power Of One
... he's already off singing and
dancing. The same happens with the boxer friend. He loses an eye. Who cares? I
mean it's only an eye , we've got so many of those that we can manage to lose
one or two.
What would happen to Pk is he would he would be caught by the Afrikaaners
police and probably be tortured and killed ; same thing with the boxer friend.
Than it would not an american movie anymore, it would be too realistic,
something the american public, and too a lesser extent the general public does
not appreciate.
I believe this ending is not realistic as Pk loses his greatest love(or
so they make ...

Star Wars: Heros And Villains
... He was willing to risk his
life, and he did. The went and hired a pilot, named Solo, and had him take
then to alderon; but there was no more alderon. So they got sucked into the
ship where Princess Laya was being held hostage. Luke disguised himself as
a storm trooper, and went to her cell block to bust the Princess out. The
really showed a lot of courage, considering that he almost didn't get out
alive.
Also, when the rebellion need a pilot to destroy the enemy ship,
Luke was quick to offer his services, so he got geared up, and told him
about the weakness in the enemy ship, and how small of a target that he ...

Collective Action Frames
... processes is a desire to expand upon the existing preoccupation with a means-oriented focus on micromobilization -- to see the recruitment of the individual as occurring on contested terrain, where are fought battles over entrenchment versus change (Garner 1996; Alexander 1996). The pupose of expansion is to invigorate the frequently reified conceptualizations of social movements by recognizing the contribution of organized collective action to definitions of social problems and cultural knowledge in general (Eyerman and Jamison 1991; Sztompka 1993). As Benford (1997) explains, doing this entails focusing upon ...

Star Trek - The Next Generation
... scout ship. Once the scout was in Federation space, the warbird
broke off the attack and quickly retreated back to Romulan space.
We hailed the ship and found out from her captain that he was alone.
His name was Shaq, captain of the Check Mate. He claimed to be a Romulan
captain in search of Federation asylum. I had never heard of such a thing; in
Romulan society, loyalty to the Romulan Empire is more sacred than life itself.
In any event, I was certain that we would learn a lot more during the next few
days.
Star date: 32851.5: Captain Shaq claimed that he was defecting in order

A Character Analysis Of Macbeth In Shakespeare's Macbeth
... this we can tell that Macbeth fought bravely and through unbeatable
odds against Macdonwald's army. It also tells us that Macbeth can handle a
sword like it was an extension of his own body. The sergeant also tells
us:
As cannons overcharg'd with double cracks;
So they doubly redoubled strokes upon the
foe:
(I,ii,37-39)
From this we can tell that he was a relentless and courageous fighter and
would not stop until he had won. He is such a fearless fighter that the
day would be remembered for centuries to come the sergeant says: "Or
