Macbeth
... responsible for his own actions which are provoked by an unwillingness to listen to his own conscience, the witches, and his ambition. First, ignores the voice of his own psyche. He knows what he is doing is wrong even before he murders Duncan, but he allows Lady and greed to cloud his judgement. In referring to the idea of the murder of Duncan, first states,"We will proceed no further in this business"(I.vii.32). Yet, after speaking with Lady he recants and proclaims,"I am settled, and bend up/Each corporal agent to this terrible feat"(I.vii.79-80). There is nothing supernatural to be found in a man being swa ...

Othello: Act 5 Analysis
... again, this time about Cassio.
"With her - on her - what you will." (4:1, 42). Iago tells Othello about
Cassio sleeping with Desdemona. This appears to be Iago's smartest move
because this causes the death of Desdemona and Cassio. This part also appears
important to Iago because he is finally made lieutenant.
Othello changes dramatically when he hears all these lies from Iago.
He is now less patient. He hurries through many decisions to be made. Such as
the one to kill his wife. He also jumps to conclusions too quickly. This is
shown when Iago and Bianca are talking about Cassio and Othello misinterprets ...

Arthur Miller And "The Crucible"
... but is not its theme. The
approach of this teacher's guide will be to view the play as one that has
outlasted the political turmoil of the time during which it was written,
becoming a classic work that continues to excite and enrage audiences and
readers.
The Crucible is set in another politically charged period in U.S. history.
The Salem witch trials of the late 17th century resulted in the accusation
and hanging of many colonials. Citizens of the Massachusetts colony were
arrested and forced to admit their own guilt and inform on others. Whether
or not the play is historically accurate is not important to the a ...

Macbeth: Macbeth Is More Guilty By His Actions Than Lady Macbeth Is By Hers
... Lady Macbeth
did not have any involvement in these cases. Based on these facts, Macbeth
would be found more guilty than Lady Macbeth.
The very first murder in this story was committed on Duncan. This crime was
planned by both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. The actual murder was done by Macbeth,
making him more guilty of the crime. Lady Macbeth just talked about committing
the crime, but she never actually went through with it nor would she ever, and
that is all that counts. Talking about committing the incident is very
different from actually doing it. Lady Macbeth did a little more than just talk
about it though ...

Romeo & Juliet: Friar Lawrence Is Short-Sighted
... do something out of the ordinary if he thinks the outcome will
help someone he cares for. For example, when he says "In one respect I'll
thy assistant be; for this alliance may so happy prove, to turn your
households rancour to pure love."(Act 2, Scene 3), he is saying that the
only reason he will marry Romeo and Juliet is because he hopes that the
marriage will end the hostilities between the two houses. When he says
"Shall Romeo by my letters know our drift, and hither shall he come; and
he and I shall watch thy waking, and that very night shall Romeo bear thee
to Mantua." (Act 4, Scene 1), he tells Juliet how eve ...

Taming Of The Shrew: Shakespeare's Preamble Of Katherine And Bianca
... has a deeper
character than the epithet would imply. From the beginning we see that she
is continually placed second in her father's affections, and despised by
all others. Bianca on the other hand, is identified as the favorite,
playing the long-suffering angel, increasing Baptisa's distinction between
the two. As Katherine recognizes her sister's strategy, her reaction is as
one can imagine how another would react suffering this type of bias for so
many years. She is hurt and she seeks revenge. This is seen in Act II,
Scene I, when Katherine sums up her own state: “I will go sit and weep/
